A Very Rhayader Christmas 2020

A Very Rhayader Christmas will go ahead this year, although alas it will be a very different affair. However, some of our lovely local organisations and people are kindly giving up their time to spread a little festive cheer in our community.

We have a Christmas Cake Decorating Competition organised by Rhayader WI. There are two categories for the competition. Adults and children over 11 years can decorate a christmas cake and email a photograph to the WI or here at The Arches. The second category is for Children (upto and including 11 years) to colour or paint a Christmas Cake picture/drawing with their name on the back and delivered to us at The Arches Community Hub. The closing date will be Thursday 17th December at 12 noon. The winners will be announced on the WI Facebook page on Saturday 19th December 2020.

Rhayader Carnival are hosting a "Christmas" Tree Decorating contest both for gardens/hedges and indoor trees (visible from the outside). The Carnival Committee will be announcing soon how to enter (free entry) and judging will take place on Saturday 19th December 2020.

Carad have put together some free children's craft packs with lots of different activities. They will be available here at The Arches between the 16th and 18th December 10 - 4.30 pm and on Saturday 19th December between 10 am and 1.00 pm.

Carad are also putting on a live Zoom event "The Return of the Light" - 8pm on 20th December. Tickets are available on Carad's Social Media and website -

Emma Coates will be hosting a Zoom Quiz on the eve of 20th December. Further details will be released nearer the time - watch out for the Zoom link on The Arches Facebook page.

Search for "Rhayader Virtual Christmas Market" on Facebook and join the group where small businesses in and around Rhayader have some fabulous products to introduce to you! Also look out for late opening in our local shops in the run up to Christmas. Please try to buy local and support our much loved and valued local businesses.

The Arches will be spreading our own Christmas cheer - Look out for Carys our Caddy disguised as Santa's Sleigh - you may even spot Father Christmas and his Elf! We will be holding our annual Christmas Raffle but on a smaller scale this year - you can purchase tickets from The Community Shop. Festive goodwill refreshments will be available from 17th December and we are also having a Saturday Shop Opening on Saturday 19th December for any last minute Christmas goods and gifts.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone in our community!
