Memory Lane Volunteers

As Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her Platinum Jubilee, cities, towns and villages across the land will take a trip down memory lane to reminisce over the years gone by. Here at The Arches, we have our very own ‘Memory Lane’ group, with the purpose of supporting local residents living with early stage dementia, and their carers.

The project - which is supported by volunteers - provides members with a space for chat, activities, companionship, trips out in ‘Archie’ and lots of laughs. One of our volunteers, Patricia, says of her experience: “I am a volunteer in our Memory Lane group. We go on different outings and have coffee and cake afternoons in the meeting room at Arches shop. I have to say it has enriched my life so much, meeting and helping people in my town.”

‘Memory Lane’ even carries out their own fundraising activities to raise money for charities that mean a lot to them. On Monday, 23rd May 2022, a group of volunteers supported the Memory Lane group to host a coffee morning at The Crown Inn, to raise funds for Dementia UK. A total of £300 was raised and a wonderful time was had by all whom attended.
